gone

if tomorrow should arrive and I were not here
would the world shed a tear or would it raise a cheer?
would the people all mourn of my passing away
or would the president declare a national holiday?

will statues be erected to keep the memory of me
fresh and alive in the minds of all who would see?
or would a single gravestone mark my resting place
and all that I'd done be lost without a trace?

would the throngs in their masses shout as one 'thank the lord,
he is gone from our lives, we need never be bored'
or o'er cross the land would a silence descend
with only the sobbing of ones who've lost a friend?

would the jubilent fever cause mother nature to smile
and her glory light the country for mile after mile?
or would the birds stop their singing and would it be the case
that the skies turned to grey and the sun hid its face?

tho whatever the outcome of my passing away
it is clearly the case and so I simply must say,
that I would not know and thus need have no fear
about tomorrow arriving and me not being here...
